The past few years have seen the UBHRFC reach new levels of professionalism and success. As Champions of the National Association of Medical Schools (NAMS) Plate competition two years running and competitors in the RFU Gloucester 3 Division against some big local outfits, the club has higher aspirations for the coming season.
Our aim is to provide accessible rugby to all medical, dentistry and veterinary students, as well as local doctors, as we have been doing since 1946. We encourage anyone with playing experience to come and show us your talents – this generates the competitive spirit we are looking for at the club. Our extensive fixture list this year allows for squad rotation to maximise opportunities to play. We train on Wednesdays and Fridays and play our games on Saturdays, unlike the university teams. Playing for the UBHRFC will also cost much less than for the University clubs and we’re a bit more understanding about balancing rugby with your studies.
The social activity of the UBHRFC is illustrious. The weekly post-game socials at our sponsored pub are coveted, as are the fancy dress efforts by our members at the Galenicals sports nights, not to mention the fact that this year we will be taking our talent to Nantes in Easter. This season we aim to go further by competing for the NAMS Cup. We play in the most difficult regional group and so to achieve this we will require greater focus, determination and spirit. As one of the most successful Galenicals sports teams we hope you can contribute to this great endeavour.
