National Association of Medical Schools (NAMS) Rugby Union Website - Welcome

University of Birmingham Medical School RFC

The University of Birmingham Medical School RFC, founded in 1958, is a proud Club that consists of Medical Students, and other members of the University of Birmingham Medical Society. As well as traditionally being a very active social Club of the Medical School, the standard of rugby in the "Cloob" has always been strong, with Birmingham winning the innaugural NAMS competition in 1994, and then again in 1994, as well as appearing in many finals over the years.

Traditionally fielding 3 XV's, recent numbers have waned due to a decrease in rugby-playing Medical Students at the University, however the standard of the Medics rugby has remained high over last few years. The Club continues to perform strongly in NAMS, regularly winning the Midlands group stage, before inevitably falling at the Semi-Final stage (for the past 4 years....). Although NAMS remains the focus for the Birmingham Medics, outside of NAMS the Cloob play against many development sides from around the West Midlands area, finising 2nd in the inaugural West Midlands Reserve League Division 1, and in thw winter of 2012 the Medics achieved the huge feat of beating the Universit of Birmingham 1st XV 15-10 at their home pitch, to win the Gallowglass Shield (the return fixture will be taking place this December, 2014).

The Cloob will be looking to perform well in the 2014/15 NAMS season, as well as taking part in the introduction of the new Medics Premier League.
