National Association of Medical Schools (NAMS) Rugby Union Website - Welcome

Liverpool Medics RFC

Initially set up as a social club, with occasional matches in the inter-department campus league and NAMs fixtures. The club now enters its fourth year of playing regular rugby in South Lancashire and Cheshire. The NAMS fixtures are a highlight of the year not only for the players but for the student body who support us – really it’s just a nice break from the fighty scousers we play week in week out! The club has enjoyed previous success in NAMs, making two consecutive plate finals in 2012 and 2013. Missing out on finals day this year has instilled a sense of determination to succeed in next year’s competition.

We are proud that our club is comprised of a vast majority of medical students, with only a few cameo appearances from other Schools. Supporting the dedicated team are our equally dedicated committee, elected at the end of year AGM they are responsible for running the club for the coming year; if we can remember who we voted in… Headed up by the club Chairman and Captain, these two are responsible for the running of the club, the captain runs training and selects the match day team whist Mr Chairman runs the social aspect including our welcome eveing and annual TOUR.

As a club we take pride in being from Liverpool, we love competing in NAMS and unanimously believe the best part of rugby is the lash afterwards. We would welcome any team looking for a truly incredible city to tour to.

The team is an integral part of the medical society, being involved in every fundraiser and organised event throughout the year, routinely the highest bid act in the annual Charity Slave Auction. Socials in the club, organised by our Social Secretary – always a 2nd year- vary from bar crawls, the Christmas Phal Curry and Chinese Karaoke to the invasion of any house party that may be occurring. The Annual TOUR is a calendar highlight, unfortunately I cannot say any more on that.

Playing rugby for LMSRFC is more than just a sports club, it is a group who grow stronger every year, who turn out to train in all conditions and look to play fast flowing rugby. Though we usually play against teams of older more weathered players we always look forward to the unique feeling of running onto a pitch to play other medical schools.

Bring on 2014/15
