National Association of Medical Schools (NAMS) Rugby Union Website - Welcome

Nottingham Medics RUFC

Nottingham Medics RUFC is an established club with a playing history and alumni network stretching
back decades. We have vibrant sporting and social calendars which support a close-knit society,
eager to welcome new members.
The club operates largely autonomously which allows members to mould it to suit our needs.
Over the years a playing, training and social schedule has been created which suit the needs of
Nottingham’s medical students.
RUGBY
Our senior squad (open to all members) competes weekly in the Nottinghamshire RFU Security Plus
Pennant competition, division 1. This competition offers 18 Saturday matches per year against local
men’s sides. In addition this organisation offers an annual knockout competition.
Of course, we enter our senior squad into the NAMS tournament annually and have enjoyed a good
degree of success, reaching the finals frequently in recent years. The NAMS tournament has become
the focus of our activities and we enthusiastically support the development of the competition.
Nottingham is proud to host the NAMS 7s tournament annually, usually around Easter-time. This
entertaining tournament attracts teams from across the country and presents a good opportunity
for the NAMS clubs to come together for a day each year. Furthermore the event opens our summer
season which includes the Matlock 10s tournament, at which we won the plate last year.
We maintain a pre-clinical squad for younger members which enters the Nottingham University IMS
tournament on Wednesday afternoons, winning it outright this year. This ensures that all members
of the club have the opportunity to play rugby weekly.
The club trains twice weekly, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at grounds 10 minutes from
campus. Senior club members provide transport to and from training and matches.
SOCIAL
NMRUFC enjoys several major socials each term which gather the whole society together and are a
key attraction for the club. Similarly the pre-clinical side hold post-match socials almost weekly to
celebrate their victories. Several one-off events occur annually including our international tour to
destinations including Amsterdam, Krakow, Hamburg and Prague. Our esteemed Alumni return to
Nottingham each year for a fiercely competitive match and black-tie dinner that evening, often a few
manage to join us abroad on tour.
